Reading USB Mass Storage from Rockbox

Hi,

I'm thinking of developing a plugin for Rockbox that can read songs from a USB pen drive that is connected to the player's USB port. I was wondering if this is possible using Rockbox and the hardware that it runs on.
Can you read files from a USB Mass Storage device through the USB port *from* the Rockbox device much like you read the files on the Rockbox device via USB when it is connected to a computer? Or does the USB connection only work in one direction?

This is basically USB-Host. A few supported devices have the ability to do this, but it's currently unimplemented in Rockbox.

Feel free to work on USB-Host if you wish.

If you can write this plug-in it would be great. I had just asked for this feature this morning without seeing your post.

Be aware that the USB (Host) OTG sucks a lot of battery. There is several postings on this topic elsewhere

This would be a *huge* amount of work - look at how long USB mass storage took.  Add this to the fact that it is only useful for a small number of players, and I don't think you'll find anyone doing it just for something to do.  I think you'll need to find someone that both really wants it, has the skills, and a very large amount of free time.
