ihp-120 firmware help me!

Hello Guys,

I have a problem with upgrading the firmware of my IHP-120. I just got it yesterday and it was shipped with the 1.40 firmware. I followed this instructions:
1. downloaded the 1.66 firmware from the iriver site & fwpatcher.exe from the Rockbox site
2. unzipped it to my PC and patch the original Iriver firmware
3. copied the patched .hex file to the player's root directory
4. chose "Firmware upgrade" menu on the player.

As a result the display showed: "Firmware upgrading" .The instructions said that it will turned itself off a few minutes later. But my IHP-120 dose not. The red HDD LED flashing for a second and stopped at this screen:



I waited for half an hour but it's never turned itself off. So I had to reset it at last. After swiching it on, it still shows: "VER 1.40"...

And then I try to upgrade original Iriver 1.66 firmware. The same problem.

Could someone please help me?

You don't need to use fwpatcher.exe these days -- Rockbox Utility includes this functionality, and it has some nice advantages (i.e. it places the patched hex file directly on the player and can install the main build the same time ). Of course you can still go the old route

And then I try to upgrade original Iriver 1.66 firmware. The same problem.

No idea what's exactly happening here (as it's the iriver firmware upgrade process), but it might be a good idea to upgrade to a different (read: earlier, like 1.65) firmware first. Maybe something changed in their upgrade procedure.

I never had a problem upgrading the firmware on my H120 so can't really help except to say make sure you got the H120/H140 firmware not the H115 - I'm wondering if the upgrade procedure can detect the wrong model, but if it can it should produce an error.

I'm wondering if just maybe it might be worth trying to upgrade it to an un-patched but later iRiver version...

just a wild guess but it might be worth it to check the disk for errors.
