Pictureflow - Box Sets of Albums

(1/1)

ravenlot:
I'm not sure if this is possible so I thought I'd ask.

I have a few box sets that are compilations of several albums.  I'd like to set up Rockbox to show a scan of the box when in pictureflow but show the appropriate album covers when playing each track.

So far, I can show the proper album cover when a track is playing but in picture flow, it shows the album art of the first album of the box set.

If it's possible to get it how I want it, can someone tell me the directory and file structure on how to do this?

What I have so far:
In the tags of each track, I number each of the tracks through the entire box set rather than each album separately; I do this because my computer music player doesn't read the disc number tag.  If I don't, my computer will show multiple track 1s, 2s, 3s, etc.  The files of each track of each album are sorted in folders named for each album it belongs to.  A JPEG for the album cover is located in each album folder.  Each track is tagged with the name of the box set in the album title field and I just type the individual album titles in the comment field of each track for future reference.  The tag for the disc number is also set.  What results in Rockbox is that all the tracks are listed under the same album title.  Rockbox prefaces each track with the disc number and the appropriate album art cover is displayed.  This is great since it groups all the tracks but I can still see what album within the box set is currently being played.  But in pictureflow, the album art of the first disc is displayed when I would prefer it to show the box art.

If I'm reading this correctly, I'm assuming you have each disc in its own sub-folder within the folder for the whole box set... What I would try doing would be placing a JPEG of the box art in the main folder for the box set and have the music and JPEG files for each disc in separate sub-folders inside that folder (unless that's what you already have done, in which case I don't see how it would be possible unless the code for Pictureflow were changed to check for and load album art images in a different order...)

ravenlot:
Thanks for the response.

Yeah, that's how I have it now.  And I agree, it seems it doesn't work due to how album art is read in rockbox right now.  Rockbox just reads the file in the album subfolder, which I want it to do when playing the album ... just not within pictureflow where I want it to show the box art.

Was hoping there was a workaround but I can't think of one.

EDIT:

I found a workaround that I'd thought I'd share.

First, as before, I kept the folder structure that I have with each album of the box set in their separate folders and with JPEGS of their album art within the folder.  Then I made a copy of the JPEG of the box.  I named the file the exact name of the album title as it is in the mp3 metadata of all of the tracks.  Then I moved that file to the folder of that first album.

I then made multiple copies of the album art JPEG of the first album in the box set.  I renamed them to match the names of each of the first album's track's filename and placed them in that folder.  So each track in the first album of the box set has a corresponding picture file.

Since each track has it's own matching JPEG file, that file, which is a picture of the first album, shows up in the WPS when each track of that first album is played.  Pictureflow will ignore the track based art and read the JPEG in that first album's directory that has the name of the album title.

Note, this only has to be done with the first album of the box set as long as the other albums are in their own folder and have their own album art file within that folder.

I'm glad you figured something out, it's too bad that you had to go to such an extreme to get what you wanted but at least it works.

ravenlot:
Well, I don't know if it's a bug or something but my solution doesn't seem to work all the time.

On one box set, I couldn't get Rockbox to read the box art file which I placed in the folder of the first album.  It kept on reading the file in the last album.  So for that box set, I'm going to do the same except apply it to the last album rather than the first.
