ATA error: -80
« on: July 27, 2009, 11:33:26 AM »
I'm upgrading from 4GB CF to 32GB CF but I get ATA error: -80 on boot with the 32GB CF card.
The card seems fine, and from what I'm reading I need a custom bootloader.  Am I correct?
If so, could someone walk me through patching/building/installing the new bootloader so I could use this new card?
The wiki http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GigabeatFXPort#Bootloader has a bootloader dated back to 2007 and no other info.
As far as I understand I will need some patches from Flyspray, what #s do I need?
I have no idea how the bootloader is installed manually if it is, so I would need to know how.
...
The new CF card is a Kingston elite pro 133X 32GB if anyone is curious.

I have an 8GB CF mod, and the DAT fie from the link in the Wiki worked for me (it was dated from 2008, at least the last time I checked).  When I attempted to use a 2007 bootloader, I got the ATA -80 error on my setup.

I also didn't need any patches in the build to get my setup to work. But again, mine is an 8GB setup.

Well...  it works now.  I manually replaced the bootloader file, FWIMG01.DAT, and Rockbox fired up afterwards.
The bootloader that gave the above error was placed by rbutilqt.exe, I guess it has a different version of the bootloader.
Speaking of which rbutilqt.exe is buggy as hell, I haven't been able to use it without it crashing at some point and it constantly consumes all of my CPU, but I guess thats a subject of another forum.
Anyway, all good here now.  Happy Gigabeat cF 32GB owner over here.

[EDIT]
A followup...  The bootloader versions differ and function differently.  The one I used to use with the 4GB CF card had a gray background and booted Rockbox after bootloader USB mode.
One I use now, off the wiki page has a black background and turns off the player after bootloader USB mode without attempting to boot Rockbox.
It works, but why all the confusion with undocumented bootloader versions?
