iPod 5G - locks up

I'm a new iPod 5G owner who's been struggling with RB for about 3 weeks.  I've tried to do my homework by reading the RB manual and searching the forums for answers before posting here.

The problem: After installing, uninstalling and re-installing RB, the iPod continues to lock up with RB.  It seems to work fine right after installation, but when I leave it overnight, it will lock up when I try to select Files.  Resetting with Menu/Select seems to kill the iPod..it does not reboot but goes dark and stays that way until it's been on a wall charger for several hours even though the battery is well charged.  Once it does come back to life, I run into more of the same problems.

I saw a post in the forum indicating a flaw in the iPod firmware that gives a false low battery indication, and this seems to me to be the likely problem.  Is there someway to overcome this?  If not, it doesn't appear that RB will be usable for me at all unless there's something else I'm overlooking.

I bought the iPod with the intent of using RB because of its flexibility, and I'll be bummed if I can't get it to work!

UPDATE:  I've been using the iPod in iPod mode for the past 48 hours and just encountered the same lock up I did with RB.  So clearly it's an iPod issue not a RB problem.

If anyone has a suggestion, it would be greatly welcomed!!

The low battery screen thing only happens when you turn the ipod off, then try and turn it back on again (it then requires a reboot with menu+select to start working again) - if you are having it lock up while it's actually running rockbox then it's something else.
