formatting my ipod now it wont even show on my computer can some one help?

Hi all,
Just wondering if some one can help, i had the rock box on my ipod and managed to bugger up and format the thing now it shows cant load rock box on the ipod.
Also when i plug into my vista operated computer it does not even show in the plugged in drives bit, sorry if my lingo is not up to scratch not too literate at this.
tried to reinstall the apple i tunes ware but when i open that programe it does not show ipod so cant do it.
Can any one tell me how to fix this machine?

Have you manually put the iPod into Disk Mode before connecting to your PC?  This should enable your system to mount it as a UMS device and for iTunes to restore it.
