iPod Mini 2G Help

(1/1)

hardtymz2517:
i have a 4gb ipod mini 2g and have modded it with a 16gb transcend 133x card. the ipod i got off ebay already had rockbox and i cloned that drive with the 16gb. (the version of rockbox was 180.... i don't know the rest because the screen shuts off too fast.) well the ipod worked with rockbox and could boot to regular apple software if i wanted with the 4gb card, but on the 16gb card, rockbox boots and the menu system shows up but no button will do anything, it's frozen/stuck. i can't even press menu and select to reboot it and i cannot hold play/pause to switch back to the apple ipod software. i tried ipodpatcher and used bootloader patch for ipod mini 2g and it still does the same thing. i completely reformatted the drive and started over with newer rockbox install and still the same thing. i restored the ipod and installed the newest version of rockbox but the same thing, it always hangs on the menu screen and no button or combination will move it or turn it off. (the clock on the screen and the hold button are the only ones that work.) please help. i ran out of ideas. i'm new to this so please explain any steps in detail. thank you.

Rockbox isn't freezing. If the clock is working and the hold switch works as expected, then the software is working fine. What probably happened is that you may have damaged the little ribbon cable that connects the click wheel to the logic board, in which case you may need to replace that cable, or just buy a new click wheel altogether.

Here is a link to the part you'll need: http://www.ifixit.com/iPod-Parts/iPod-Mini-Gen-2-Click-Wheel-Blue/IF196-014

this maybe for rockbox, but the apple software worked fine and was very responsive. i even got that "bootloader of death screen" but finally was able to fix it and the select and menu (hold together to reboot it) also worked fine.

sorry you're right., i opened her up and saw a tiny tear that went across two of those cables. thank you for your help. now it's off to buy a new click wheel.
