"Can't load rockbox.ipod" error after installation on 5.5G iPod

hello,

i tried to install rockbox this evening but without success. i used the rockbox utility (automatic install) and the manual way and it said everything installed just fine. after rebboting the ipod it gives me this error screen:

Version: 3.0
IPOD version: 0x000B0011
TOSHIBA MK8010GAH
Partition 1: 0x0B 38096 MB
Loading Rockbox...
Error!
Can't load rockbox.ipod:
File not found

it is a 5.5g ipod with firmware 1.3. i'm working under windows xp, sp3. i set back the ipod to factory settings prior to installing rockbox. after reading through several postings here and trying suggested solutions without success i hope to find answers this way.

help would be very much appreciated.

Could you mention what you have tried already?  It will help to avoid redundancy.

That looks wrong - Rockbox thinks you have a 38GB partition.  I'm guessing you've got an 80GB 5.5g?

How did you perform the "factory restore" ?  Using itunes?  Had you done anything unusual to your ipod before that?

ok, it's an 80gb 5.5g ipod and i saw the partition size too. in itunes it says it has it's normal size of 74.38 gb.

i also have to mention that i had rockbox installed before but back then it just worked with the zeroslackr loader/installer. so rockbox loader never worked on my ipod so far. after trying ipod-hacks from ipodwizard.net and disliking them i formatted the ipod harddisk and restored it to factory settings using itunes 8.21.

what have i tried so far this time:


* automatic installer (rockbox utility)
* manual install following instructions in manual (ipodpatcher)
* using the 32mb-version for 30gb 5.5 ipod as suggested in some thread here where it worked due to a replaced motherboard in an 80gb 5.5 ipod
* different loaders with rockbox:- rockbox loader --> doesn't work, gives error message posted above;
- ZeroSlackr-SVN-snapshot-2008-08-11 --> loader works, but when loading rockbox itself comes up with error message "no .rockbox directory, installation not completed", but rockbox directory in correct place
- ipod linux manager beta --> loader works, but when loading rockbox itself comes up with error message "no .rockbox directory, installation not completed", but rockbox directory in correct place

after each installation i restored the ipod using itunes 8.21 for a blank start. but no success.

any suggestions or is there more information you need? thanks...

Please give all possible details about the partitions on your ipod. Sometimes having ipl previously leaves them in a state itunes is okay with (so won't change on restore) but Rockbox doesn't like.
