tagnavi_custom = file name
« on: July 21, 2009, 03:31:29 PM »
Good afternoon,

I'm new in the world of Rockbox, and i had a little problem with the tagnavi file.

I really wanted to config. the database to show my music only in "file name format", without the tag thing (i have sansa e200 player, but i don't use ID3 or another tag system, only file name like "artist - music.mp3").

I searched this forum, but didn't find anything about "how to" in the meaning of showing file name in database...

For the purpose of explanation, my database only show the files as "<untagged>". So, please, can anyone help me? I don't want to use ID3 tag :). Is it possible to switch <untagged> for proper file name?

Maybe i sound a little confuse, but sorry for my english (i'm not anglophonic).
Many thanks to rockbox staff and community.

Why wouldn't you just use the file browser instead? Assuming your files are organized appropriately I would think that would suit your needs perfectly.

Hmmm, karashata, you are right, but i forgot to mention my intention...

I wanted to config the custom view menu to show the "file name" thing in same way the menu "A to Z" does with tag from the music files.  But in a way the file name begin, for example:

Custom view > A to Z > Numeric > 8mm - Stunning.mp3
Custom view > A to Z > Numeric > 8mm - You know.mp3
Custom view > A to Z > E > Eagles - Hotel california.mp3

Hmmm, with another option also:

Custom view > All > "showing all music files"

I really tried make something like this, but in the end, i just don't know how... Or if it's even possible make this in tagnavi_custom file.

The problem with opening the music direct in the file menu is that my music is spread in many different folders (in player and microSD)... And the folders are about "genre" than album or in alphabetically way, so, the database option seems better with something like "A to Z" menu :).

Please, if it's possible... help me :).
Thanks in advance!

I don't think this is currently possible. There is a filename tag for the database, but it contains the full path to the file which is useless for your purpose.

Why don't you just tag your files correctly? There exist various mass-taggers that can (more or less reliably) automate the process.
