Tracks skipping like a record
« on: July 19, 2009, 08:40:53 PM »
I've been having issues with tracks skipping during play.  It will repeat 2-3 seconds of a track and then keep going.  At first I thought it was a bad mp3, but then I noticed it doing it on mp3's that I know are good.  I"m using Rockbox version 3.3 on a Sansa c240.

Anyone else notice this?

My searches for skipping only found issues related to skipping to the next track, not skipping of the song audio.

This is usually caused by having too many effects (like EQ, crossfeed) running.

You could try resetting all the settings to the defaults to check that theory - the instructions are in the fine manual

How does one have too many effects running?

I haven't set any of that stuff up.  I only put music on the microsd card, and made some playlists.

Do the tracks just pause or is there other glitchiness?  Is it just MP3 or does all audio do this?  Do tracks on the internal storage do the same?

The tracks skip backwards 1-2 seconds so the song repeats it sell, sort of like a stutter.  But once it skips back, it will play through the whole song.  The playback does not get stuck in a loop.

All tracks are mp3, and only do it on the player.  If I play them on the PC there are no problems.  I also can't get the same tracks to do it on the player, it sort of just happens when it wants to.

I've had almost the same issue...  Mine doesn't skip back a couple seconds but they do stutter for a split second...  Running all the defaults...  One thing I thought it could be is the Database Updating while you are playing causing it...  This would seem pretty normal as it's extra disk access...  Just my thoughts...

I could get the same songs to skip in the same places.  The original mp3 on my computer didn't skip, so I copied it over to the mp3 player again and it plays fine now.

I don't understand how the files could have become corrupted like this during the copying process.
