[SOLVED] Issues installing on H320

(1/1)

Berticus88:
I've already upgraded the firmware from 1.02US to 1.29K, which I grabbed from here. The upgrade went just fine, and now I want to rockbox it. I've tried using RBUtil on Windows and Linux, and neither of them gave me an error, so I assumed they were successful at installing the bootloader. However, when I upgrade the firmware, it's still the original. RBUtil worked just fine when I rockboxed on my H120 just a couple of weeks ago. So what else do I need to do?

On Linux, I'm using RBUtil from svn, on Windows it's just the binary provided. Rockbox version 3.3.

Try to flash the patched hex file again. There have been reports about H300 players that for some unknown reason need to get flashed two or three times before it actually worked.

Berticus88:
Yeah, I searched these forums before posting. Did it about 5 or so times before posting.

---Edit---
It seems RBUtil was not modifying the firmware as needed. I didn't need to do a checksum to confirm. I just looked at the modified date on both Windows and Linux before and after installing the bootloader.

I then used fwpatcher.exe (why is it not availabe for Linux?) and patched up the firmware manually. The modified date was changed, and I successfully upgraded the firmware, and booted into rockbox.

Because if you really want, you can build the tools directly from SVN on linux, or use fwpatcher.exe under wine.

... and even more because Rockbox Utility is the tool for doing this these days. If it doesn't work properly there might be an issue with Rockbox Utility that should get fixed. Though when I tested the patching of the bootloader file it worked fine for me (especially on linux). You didn't mix up the downloaded hex file with the one placed on the player by Rockbox Utility by chance?
