Ipod 5G and Car audio without control

(1/1)

woodi:
So I've tried searching around and every thread I've read about this so far seems to be a dead end.  What I'm wondering is if anyone knows of a receiver with an ipod dock cable that will plug into a rockboxed ipod and simply play and charge the device.  I don't want the receiver to control the ipod just pull the line out from the dock and send it through the car speakers while keeping the battery from going dead.  I know I can do this by just using a line in cable and a cigarette lighter charger but using the doc connector would be a much cleaner solution.  If there isn't a reciever that will do this i'm thinking about buying an empty dock connector and a reciever with a rear aux input and routing the line out to that and trying to hardwire the charging part into the car.  Would be nice if someone already did this for me though.

The blaupunkt units caught my eye because they say they don't display track information or control the ipod but I was hoping someone had some experience in the matter so I don't end up just throwing money away trying to get this thing to work.

The JVC's work great. You just have to set it for "External In" instead of "iPod" (which controls the ipod running the OF). I've been using a JVC for some time now, and I agree it's much better to use it running Rockbox on the iPod, like you say, because you can adjust all the settings etc and the sound you get is MUCH better... which more than compensates for not being able to control the ipod using the car stereo.

I was just looking at the JVC's are you using one that uses a usb port for input or an actual dock connector...and I guess more importantly does it matter.  Thanks

audio-i:
The ones I know have both a frontal USB port and a dock connector (some as a separate accessory and some already integrated); what I wrote before refers to the dock connector.

woodi:
Man they arn't giving that dock connector adapter away $50 for the thing.
