hello, I am a newbie and have a 30 gig ipod classic gen 5 i think. I added rockbox to it about a year and half ago and gave it to the wife, since neither one of us can stand itunes. My question is I just got it back and dont know how to delete her music off it. Id rather take a bullet to the ear than some of her music. i booted it up and it went to original firmware I cant figure out how to delete there so i plug it in the cpu to go thru folders to find nothing. So i go into rockbox (took a bit to do it couldnt remember) and still cant delete the files. i d/l itunes but ipods still in rockbox. and i hate itunes but a friend of mine said thats how he deletes the music. First how do i go from one firmware to the other. I know from original i hold menu and the center button to get into rockbox. how do I go back. I just gotta know how to get rid of it before the ipod gets flyer miles. I just cant listen to the backstreet boys. Any help for a newbie would be awesome.          thanks again     Rod

All of the music can be found in subdirectories of /iPod_Control/Music/.  Note that the iPod_Control directory is hidden.  If you don't wish to use iTunes you could simply delete the iPod_Control folder and copy your own files to a location of your choosing. 

There have been a lot of changes to Rockbox over the last year and a half.  I encourage you to update to the newest release or a current build.

I may have to do that. I have been looking and found the original user manual I exited rockbox by holding play and now it wont turn back on any ideas? Its done this ever since i modded it but sometimes it just comes on sometimes it dont. You gotta mess with it for awhile. Is this normal? when I get it back on I will see what version i am running of rockbox.

If it appears frozen then force a hard reset by holding the Menu + Select key combination.   

You can, of course, boot the original firmware by sliding the Hold switch on as soon as it begins to boot.  You can also force it into Disk Mode (this is standard iPod functionality). 

I offered the previous suggestion as it's a way to get rid of unwanted music without needing to install an application that reads the iTunesDB on your iPod.  If you don't want to do this you can just use any application that syncs to iPods to manage your music.

I tried that 1,000,000 times. anyway I got it working waited about 6 hours and it powered up. However I still cant get the music off. I am about ready to reformat it and start over. There is some decent music and movies id like to get off of it. But i can always re download it. Anything I should worry about reformatting it? Is it like a flash drive?

You don't need to format and re-download everything.

Not only are the music/videos stored in that folder, but Apple also rename the files/folders so that it's not obvious what is what. You could either copy the entire folder to your PC and then run a tool that will rename the files according to their tags (for music anyway), or the other option would be to see if there's software out there that will allow you to copy your music from the iPod and rename it on-the-fly.

Ive been looking for the file and cannot find it. Anyway problem solved, for other newbies I booted into original firmware and got itunes up and running and deleted it there. Ive got it so all unwanted music is gone and now time to start in rockbox and add my music. As for the problem restarting thats a different issue. Thanks for the help.
