Only ONE bug keeping me from using Rockbox

(1/1)

techie_22:
So there is a bug report from last year about ipod video 30/60's having a hard drive thrashing issue.  Something about a change in the "spinlock" code.

Every time I turn it on, it grinds for 10-15 minutes and is almost completely unresponsive.  Database and dir cache are turned off.

My only fix is to turn it on well before I get in the car, and hope that it doesn't drain it's battery too much before I can even listen to it.  This is ridiculous.  What the hell is it doing the whole time?

Well, if that would be known the issue would already be fixed, wouldn't it? If you do experience this issue with a current build, why don't you report about it to the developers that are familiar with the code? It's impossible to fix issues if you can't reproduce them, and in case of Rockbox this might simply be caused by the fact appearing on a player the developer familiar with the offending code simply has no access to. But possibly the issue has already been fixed -- which Flyspray entry you are referring to and which build are you using?

GodEater:
I also run an ipod video as my main Rockbox player, and I don't have this issue at all.

Does it happen with a recent build if you clear your settings back to defaults?

techie_22:
Thanks for the replies.

It was FS#8568 which seems to be forgotten/abandoned.  Problem is that it was released as a patch that does not seem to work with recent builds.  I'm using the release I downloaded last week, but the problem has been there on releases up to a year ago.

GodEater:
You didn't answer my other question (at least not specifically).

Have you reset your configuration back to the defaults shipped with Rockbox and confirmed this still happens? Just updating the build isn't enough to help us narrow down the source of the bug.
