Hi,
Did it the day before yesterday on my 5 years old iriver H320.
I write this report to encourage those who are still unsure if this change might pay off.
Well, it's a costly investment, no doubt about it. But I think it is worth considering it.
Here is my parts list with the price I paid for the items:
- Kingston 32 GB Elite Pro 133x Compact Flash (CF/32GB-S2), eBay, free delivery (58,10 EUR)
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290326626610- 50-Pin HDD -> CF Adapter: CF to Toshiba 1.8-inch IDE Hard Drive Converter, extremedeal, free delivery, it took more than 2 weeks from Hongkong to my home (4,44 EUR)
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10886- New harbor for the removed HDD: 1.8" UNIVERSAL EXTERNE FESTPLATTEN-GEHÄUSE STAHL USB2.0, (12,80 EUR)
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120436834368- New battery: Power Akku f. iRiver H110 H120 H140 H320 H340 - 2200mAh, ebay, free delivery (19,30 EUR)
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390056544900So, I paid 62,54 EUR for the mere CFMod, but inclusive battery replacement and new casing for the HDD it summed up to 94,64 EUR (81,84 EUR without the HDD casing).
By doubling the sum you would almost get a new DAP with new technology and guarantee.
I can say that I have a rejuvenated DAP (H332) now, with a new powerful Li-Polymer battery and additional 10 GB for my music and which works absolutely silent. No problems until now. If I find some, I will post them in this thread.
From the technical point of view: It was quite easy to follow all steps described in the excellent written CFMODGuide in the wiki. However, without the videos of StephaneAubert (
http://www.paillassou.com/IRIVER.H320/IRIVER.H320.CF.htm) and Videojug (
http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-replace-the-battery-in-your-iriver-h320-or-h340), I wouldn't have dared it.
Thanks to everybody who contributed to the Rockbox project. Special thanks to Christian, a friend of mine who did this together with me (4 eyes see more than 2 :-)
Rockbox is a fantastic project.
Cheers, Norbert.
