trying to compile using vmware
« on: July 12, 2009, 06:51:56 PM »
Im trying to get a philips 1620 to run rockbox.  I've got to the point where i've typed ../tools/configure.  Its asking me to "Enter target platform".  When I type "101" for the Philips hdd1630/hdd1830 it says "command not found"

Thanks.

BTW, I'll show you where I am when I'm typing this:-

user@debian:~/rockbox/build_hdd1630$

It works correctly for me.  Could you try again and post the complete log from your command line?

Well I got up this morning, tried it again and it worked.
The one thing different I noticed was that when typing 101 (for Philips HDD1630) the cursor was at the far left of the window whereas last night the cursor was after "user@debian:~/rockbox/build_hdd1630$".

Thanks.

I've zipped the file and extracted it to the player but when I switch it on its the usual philips firmware. When I connect the player to the PC I can see that no signs of rockbox are there.
Going by this post http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=20861.0 is this what I have to do.

I've now got the rockbox folder on the player, I was'nt putting it into service mode. It's still not working. I probably need to change the philips firmware file to the rockbox firmware file but am too chicken to without a second opinion. ::)

I went ahead and swapped the philips firmware with rockbox.mi4 but when I unplugged the player and restarted it, it said "Please connect player to pc". The service mode means I can restore files.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know how to post the complete log from the command line but I can see 2 errors:-

cat: /home/user/rockbox/build/apps/features: No such file or directory

and

sh: Line 1: /home/user/rockbox/tools/convbdf: No such file or directory

I extract the zipped rockbox folder from the user/debian/rockbox/build folder to the root of the players' drive but it still loads up the OF.

Any help much appreciated.

Got it working at last and it was of course my own stupidity
When I got to the point of pressing "B" for bootloader I was pressing "N" for normal, I had read it from this thread http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=4689.0
I should have stuck to the wiki.
