Strange Disc Access Issue-Noob

I have a 30G Ipod Video and after installing Rockbox I cannot add new files to the Ipod hard drive. The files will start to copy, but after 1-2 files the system hangs and then I get an error that the path is invalid. When I go back into the drive, it shows nothing until I restart the Ipod. -Update the hard drive is bad on this Ipod. Seems to be a hardware issue.

Can you still add music when it's booted into the original Apple firmware ?

Check the cable and filesystem: chkdsk /f on windows, fsck.vfat on linux.

It works fine using the normal firmware and Itunes.
