Progress bar for in-Rockbox file transfers
macgeek417:
OK... I keep all of my music on the 4GB MicroSDHC card that I keep in my e250v1, but when I connect my Sansa to my computer, for some reason the link to the MicroSDHC card is unreliable; if I can even get it to mount, when I open up the disk it hangs on fetching directory listings most of the time, and the only way to get the computer (Vista) to respond is to unplug the Sansa, and to get the card to show from within Rockbox I then have to remove it and put it back in. To get around this problem, I copy new music to the otherwise unoccupied (besides my 100MB .rockbox folder) NAND flash, and then within Rockbox i move the files to the microSDHC card. As sometimes I might have several hundred megabytes of new music, this takes a long time. I think it would be nice to have a real progress bar instead of the current indeterminate bouncing block; In my opinion it should show megabytes copied/remaining, and/or the current file being moved/copied. "Copying..." just doesn't tell you much. It should be like the deleting message: "Deleting /Some Random Folder/Some Random Subdirectory/Some Random File.someRandomExtension..." message.
Would this be very difficult to implement?
JdGordon:
part of the reason its a bouncing block is because we didnt want to have it scan the directory to count how many files are being copied.. that would just slow the process down, and bloat it because its not really needed...
I guess the same can be said for not showing the actual copied/to copy stats... although there could be other issues there.
That said, just about anything *could* be done... it does need someone to put the effort in and do it though
macgeek417:
Even files copied would be better than nothing, and that shouldn't slow down transfers!
EDIT: I would code it my self, but I can't even write a calculater app that works without problems
*shivvers at thought of the Yikes! Calculater (apperintly 2+2=22, and 5x3 = 83)*
JdGordon:
well, files copied is fairly useless if you don't know how many are left to go... but yes it could be done...
macgeek417:
Yes, but files copied/the size of the current file would at least make it apperant that the transfer is at least making progress. Once, I was copying files and it sat there for a long time, so I force-rebooted it, only to find out it had only copied a little bit of data because a file was corrupt.
EDIT:
My microSDHC problems were solved by reformatting my card, but a progress bar would still be nice
