[SOLVED]: no USB access to the Harddisk of iAudio X5 after flashing Rockbox
« on: July 01, 2009, 06:24:30 AM »
Hi,

Please allow me to ask for HELP to anybody who could bring me back on track!
I am brandnew on this forum since I only discovered it yesterday.
I have a Cowon iAudio X5 with 30 GB harddisk which I almost never used. I discovered the huge possibilities with ROCKbox only yesterday, so I decide to flash the player.
I followed the instruction for an automatic installation and after it was finished I indeed have ROCKbox on my X5, it works completely fine, i.e. it plays, it can sort on artists, genre etc......

BUT: I cannot acces my X5 with USB cable from my computer anymore!!!!!

There is no connection at all, which means that I only hhave the music on the X5 as it was on it for some years, but cannot delete or transfer new stuff.

I assume something must have gone wrong with flashing, but I have no clue what and how to fix this.

I have been reading some sites in the meantime, seeing other people with other playes having similar problems.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION???

I look really forward to get some feedback how this can be solved (or not) and what would be the extreme way of fixing this.

The X5 has been used by me only 10 hours, so it is still like brandnew and I hop I can save this machine!

THANKS IN ADVANCE for any comment............

thanks for asking Aaron424, I am using Windows XP and Vista.

However: I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!!!!

In another thread on this forum I just found out that the key is to NOT use the USB HOST port at the left hand side of the X5, but to use the USB connection via the bottom which is accessable via the cradle and/or the subpack.  Pfffffffffffff.......

Now that I connected the PC to the main bottom connector I can again access the drive and everything works fine again.  (however I installed Rockbox via that USB HOST)

Apperently this was also wrtitten in the manual of the X5, but as stated, I own this X5 since 3,5 years but only used it approx. 10-11 hours because I was not a big friend of the Menu Structure and the missing database functions in the genuine firmware.

Purely by co-incidence because of reading something about battery life and replacement of battery which went with battery run time tests by means of Rockbox, I "discovered" the very user friendly and extended Rockbox firmware.

And I am very happy with it, because X5 is one of the best players ever IMHO (regarding audio quality which I compare with my rather poor Iphone audio)

I saw some more Rockbox stuff last night which can be installed, let's go for that.

Unless there is some more comment, this topic can be closed.

cheers
