Help selecting a player for Rockbox?
icewater:
Hi. I'm hoping to get some help selecting a portable audio player for Rockbox to match a specific set of features. I primarily listen to long audio tracks, and record brief notes.
- Doesn't lose its current position when the player is shut off, or when files are added to the player, etc.
- While listening, can easily record quick "voice notes" and then resume listening without losing place.
- Ability to quickly fast-forward deep into a long track.
- Support for ogg and flac, mp3, and wav.
- Relatively decent microphone.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

I'd try a Sansa e2xx refurb, for less than $50 they a great deal.

Rockbox currently does not run on v2 (AMS) Sansa e200's so buying an e200 is a bit risky unless you know for certain that the one being sold is a v1. The only reliable way to know which version a unit is is by checking the firmware version. v1 units have Sansa firmware versions 1.x.x. The v2's have Sansa firmware version 3.x.x.
There is a guide in the wiki http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/BuyersGuide which shows some of the features of various players.
Rockbox supports bookmarks (see section 8.6 in the manual).
Fast forward speed and acceleration is adjustable (see section 7.4 of the manual).
Many players support recording, although I personally never use the feature so I can't comment on how easy it would be to interrupt playback, record a voice then resume playback.

If you want to do any proper recording then the e200 is not a good choice - it is limited in sample rates, and might be mono only (I'm not sure about this). The internal mic is pretty rubbish, but this is true for all internal mics. Just for doing voice it'd be fine though.

Thank you all for the recommendations and the pointers to references.
