m3 installation with compact flash because my hdd is dead > please help me

hello rockbox folks,

my hd is gone and the player tells me hdd error. so i tried to replace it with a cf card. i can charge an access the player via usb and vista. but the cf card is empty and i need the original files and its structure from the original m3 harddisk (40gb). can anyone help me. and send me the files to mister_pi@gmx.de

i tried to install rockbox mit the new ....bin in the firmware directory an .rockbox at root directory but i got the same hdd error.

any suggestions

And no, I won't send you and "original files". You need to restore the Ipod before you can install Rockbox. The most likely way is using Itunes for this, but it can be done manually by following the instructions on the IpodManualRestore wiki page.

And we can't help you on a "hdd error" if you don't tell use the error.

Unfortunately he has a problem with his Iaudio M3 though :)

kugel is right i have an iaudio m3 and therefore itunes is useless in my case.

if i would know what the problem with my hdd toshiba mk4004gah is, i would'n ask. if i put on the player the display says "hdd error"
btw (i hope this shortcut is allowed) i tried to read my hdd with an adaptor for 1,8 inch hdd in my pc. but there was no chance.

Oops, missed that part and for some unknown reason assumed an Ipod :o
Have you tried reading SMART data from the hard disk when connected to the PC? Maybe that can tell you something.
