m4b playback on sanas e200
« on: June 26, 2009, 02:58:32 AM »
I was trying to play a .m4b file (audiobook, about 9 hours long), and it wouldn't play.  I read in the forums that the support was only about 2 hours, but that thread was about 2 years ago.  I was wondering if anyone has had success playing large .m4b files recently.

An hour or 2 is the limit, depending on what target you have.

I don't know much about .m4b but the b denotes bookmarkable.  Rockbox will bookmark with the right settings.  Maybe copy the file and rename it .m4a or convert it to .mp3.  I play 9 hour .mp3 books all the time and the Rockbox booking woks fine with them.

Renaming it to m4a won't make any difference, Rockbox handles them identically (you can set bookmarks in any file, no need for it to have m4b extension). The problem is in the codec: the way the AAC decoder is currently written doesn't allow for loading very long files. Converting to mp3 or cutting it into chunks will work.
