Rockboxed Sansa c250: Rename <microSD1> ?
« on: June 22, 2009, 05:31:06 AM »
Can the SD card be renamed so Rockbox doesn't show:

<microSD1>

?

I installed the latest version of Rockbox for the Sansa c200 on my c250.  I've tried renaming the card in Windows, but the new name doesn't show up in Rockbox.  In Windows, I named the card:

Music Card

but Rockbox still shows:

<microSD1>

What does the name matter?

Just personal preference.  I just want it to say something else.

The only place you can change it is in the source code, and then build yourself a custom version of Rockbox.

The important consideration is that since Rockbox uses a "flat" file system (i.e. there are no drive letters), you have to make sure your name uses a filename which is not legal on FAT32, otherwise you could have a file on your players internal memory which uses the same name as the SD card. This would be bad.

Ah ok.  So there's no way around this besides a custom build of Rockbox?  Not even with a theme and custom icon and name for the card?

Custom build only I'm afraid.

Thanks for the info..  Not really important I guess since I really only use the c250 when working out.

If you're looking for a way to make all your music show in one place then you might be interested in the Database, rather than browsing the Files direct on the device/card.

Can you elaborate? I just installed RB on my e280r equipped with a 16gb micro card and although its not that big of an issue, I would like to be able to see all music files under one folder.

Thanks!

The database is discussed in detail in the manual.  If you still have questions after reading that then feel free to ask.
