Custom Status Bar?

Is there a way to customize the status bar? Change the layout of it, add/remove things, and use custom icons? Ultimately, I'd like to be able to put the path name in the status bar as well.

I was also wondering if there's a way to customize the main menu. For example my main menu has some things that I don't really want (ie. recording??, resume playback, system, playlists, etc.)

You can't change the main menu without editing the source code.
