How can you install Windows on an Ipod and why would you want to do that? And how is this related to hardware?

If you're talking about using the original Apple firmware, Rockbox and ipodlinux on your ipod, then yes, you can.

However, installing ipodlinux is off-topic for these forums - see http://www.ipodlinux.org

No ipod runs "Windows". I think you might mean the Official Firmware by Apple. If so, it is technicaly possible to trippleboot your ipod between official FW, Ipod Linux and Rockbox. You would need to use the Ipod Linux Loader which has a configurable menu, but that is not realy "supported" by rockbox.

well, as I said, the ipl loader gives you a menu on bootup asking you which you want to boot.

Also, I have just been informed by linuxstb on IRC that there's also a way to tripple boot using the Rockbox loader. In that case, the OF is being booted by flipping the hold switch into the on possition directly after starting the ipod, Rockbox is launched if you keep it in the off position. According to linuxstb linux is booted by keeping the play button pressed during boot, in which case the loader will look for a linux.bin file.

It seems this has been locked so I'll just add one final bit of Rockbox related info.  If you wish to use the Rockbox bootloader with iPodLinux then you need to put the kernel -- linux.bin -- on the FAT32 partition, while the userland goes on an ext3 partition.  Please seek further assistance on installing iPL from their support channels.
