Is my sansa 260e a goner?
« on: June 20, 2009, 04:33:02 PM »
Bought a Sansa e260 v1 off of Newegg for relatively cheap, I've had it for four days and here is the sequence of events.

~Received player, worked out with radio appx 1/2 hour
~Player crashed, assumed it was low on batteries
~Player does not start up, respond, or do anything after
  -Pressing power button
  -Resetting (power button 30secs+)
  -Removing/putting back battary
-Plugging into computer (computer doesn't recognize anything plugged in either)
-Running dev mode (record button + hold + plug into computer)
EXCEPT when I reset it while plugged into the computer and then press the power button again it blinks its blue ring
~This lasts 3 days, until today...
~Boots up as if nothing was ever wrong
~I update its sansa firmware
~I install rockbox on it
~Rockbox locks up (whites out, requiring restart) usually within 1 minute of use
~After about 30-60 mins of playing with it, its back to not responding to anything again.
(same as described before)

So I'd love to use my mp3 player for more than 1 hr every three days... Here are my two options
~RMA this lemon back to Newegg (already have an RMA# and everything) get a new one and rock my box off with a (hopefully) less buggy sansa.
~Find some creative way to solve these problems that I haven't been able to find on these forums yet... This option is ideal if possible, i'd prefer not to have to wait 1.5 weeks for a new mp3 player...

if just the blue light turns on, it would appear that it's booting in manufacturing mode, which means there is hope.

I think the first thing you should try is to take the battery cover off and press down on the flash module. Above the battery there's a black plastic area with a cutout that shows a little chunk of very dense foam rubber - usually black, sometimes gray. Press down on the little block of foam rubber. If it's just that somehow the flash card got loose, that might fix you right up.

If not, see the unbrick instructions:

I had dropped my e260 recently and the next morning it was unresponsive (only a blue ring). Turns out the flash chip was dislodged and was a real easy fix. What your describing sounds like this issue, if its not that, RMA it to newegg.

I agree with mark05, this seems to be a common issue with the e200 series. The instructions linked to have certainly fixed my player in the past.
