Recorders and the future

(1/1)

animatorgeek:
Okay, before you mention it, yes, I've seen the Rockbox buying guide.

I was just wondering what everyone thinks of the state of recording in modern MP3 players, particularly as it relates to Rockbox.  I've looked around a bit and it seems like MP3 players with line-in recording are few and far between these days, and the ones that do have it are quite limited in their capabilities -- usually with a max recording bitrate of 128kbps.  That's almost certainly a software limitation, though, so with Rockbox it should be possible to record in any bitrate or lossless as you please.

So then here's my more direct question: Among currently supported players, and among players that seem to be on their way to being supported (in active development, bootable, making progress), what are the best ones in terms of line-in recording?  As far as I can tell the iRiver h1x0 and h3x0 are the kings among currently supported players, but is there anything newer that's up-and-coming in Rockbox development?

karashata:
Rockbox is a volunteer project, ports aren't planned by anyone. The only way any of the more modern players are going to be supported is if someone who owns one and is really interested in doing the work to make it happen does so.

That being said, I do believe there is some work being done on the more recent Sansa players using the AMS chips, though I don't know what sort of recording ability those players have. Perhaps someone with more knowledge might be able to fill in those details...

Llorean:
Nothing compars to the H100 if you can get a digital source.

funman:
The sansa ams can only record from microphone or FM radio (unless the headphone jack can be used as a line input?)

saratoga:
Theres no dock connector?
