Dual boot rockbox and apple firmware to use plugins only? (for ipod)
« on: June 18, 2009, 08:57:39 PM »
Well, rockbox is pretty awesome, but I really only like it for the plugins-- the games, doom, rockboy, and other plugins, video player, demos, calculator, etc.
As far as the actual UI goes, I much prefer the simplistic apple firmware UI. I have seen some ipod clone themes, but it's not the same. I was wondering if there is a way to dual boot the apple firmware and a minimalistic version of rockbox (ie. just the plugins) so that in the main menu of apple's UI you have a rockbox option where you can access all the games, etc, while still listening to your music. (and hopefully not draining too much battery life).

is this possible? if not, would it be too hard to do?

Not possible.

really? cause im pretty sure i remember seeing something similar somewhere: there was a guy complaining that if you want to use rockbox fro games and stuff you also have to use their music player, but somebody replied talking about how you can have them both running at the same tiime

You can alternate between them with our dual boot feature. But you described a much, much more specific setup which is definitely not possible.

And not wanted -- the goal of Rockbox is not to please you with plugins but with way better music playback.
