Ipod G4 Colour Battery Life

(1/2) > >>

mad dan:
After charging using a mains charger, Apple software shows fully charged-Rockbox shows only 75% charged. It later insists on closing down due to "low battery" whilst the Apple software shows plenty of juice left.
I notice the manual states standard battery 630mah, but this setting is not available in Battery Capacities menu, closest is 700.
Is this the reason for the mis-read?

Can anyone suggest a fix.....I'm not too concerned about the display but the premature shutting down is frustrating.

Llorean:
When did you last replace your battery?

The battery capacity setting is only used for estimating runtime, it doesn't determine when shutdown occurs, or the percentage display.

mad dan:
Thanks for the info.
Have only just purchased the G4, refurbished by Apple, so hopefully the battery should be good(?).

I am still puzzled by the difference between "battery life remaining" indications on Rockbox vs Original Software.......the latter indicator shows battery fully charged.

soap:
Rockbox shows a percentage based upon the battery voltage reading.  Don't know how Apple determines the current battery capacity.

mad dan:
Very strange:
I started the machine playing when indicator read 8%.
It's been playing for the last 3 hours hovering between  6-7% & shows no sign of flagging!
If I close it down, it shows the "battery low" warning but will cheerfully boot up again.

Is it possible that, as this is an "Apple Refurbished" machine, it has a different battery type fitted?

Is there any way of checking without pulling the machine apart?
