Thanks for the prompt response.

I already looked at v3.3 manual before I posted, searching the PDF for pitch and for tempo and timestrech. It says nothing about the new pitch feature (ie tempo change without pitch change).

And it says to access the pitch screen you press PLAY + SELECT which is an impossile combination (instead of saying press context button while playing). And when I do get to the pitchsceen on my Sansa it looks the same as before.

The manual is one of the best I have seen but it seems this one feature has been overlooked.

Actually, it is also listed under "The WPS Context Menu".  I notice the key combination you mention is listed in the WPS Key Controls table.  I'm not too sure what you mean by it being an impossible combination (does it trigger some other unwanted action?).

If you have ideas about how to describe it more clearly you are welcome to submit a patch for the manual -- either a proper patch of the LaTeX source or simply plain text describing the proposed changes.

The combination works if you press and hold Select first before pressing Play (it's also called "Select + Play") but of course you can also access the pitch screen through the context menu. I don't know at the moment how involved it would be to make it work when pressing Play first.

So you are running the 3.3 release? That is an important information here as timestretch was added right after the release. Install a current build, carefully read the pitchscreen section in a "daily manual" from the site and it will work. As mentioned I tried myself before responding and it works for me on my c250 running r21718, so not even the newest.

Sorry I quoted it the wrong way around but I probably did try it your way too; it turns out Play must be pressed very *soon* after Select or else nothing happens (eg one second is too long). A glitch or unavoidable?

The current version *is* v3.3. On the page http://www.rockbox.org/download/byhand.cgi I selected the link: http://download.rockbox.org/release/3.3/rockbox-sansac200-3.3.zip

You can see just from the above URL that v3.3 is the latest online for the Sansa c250. I am getting closer and closer to the holy grail... almost there... with your help.

There are releases (e.g. 3.3) and current builds. Current builds are updated much more frequently than releases. See the "Current Build" link, or in Rockbox Utility select "Current build".

Works fine on my e280 after some experimentation. On the default pitch screen, hit the Rec button twice (so it skips over the "Semitone Up/Down" screen and shows both "Pitch" and "Speed" in the center). To adjust only the speed and not the pitch (in other words, to timestretch), leave the wheel alone and press only the left (|<<) and right (>>|) keys.

Woohoo! Feels like I have finally conquered an RPG. Finally made it work thanks to this final info.

I initially missed that there are 4 screens. At a glance it looks like only two screens that you toggle between. Would be helpful if the above instructions were put in the manual. I know they are redundant and that all the information is already there if one reads carefully but I am sure RockBox isn't deliberately designed to be a puzzle (especially since everyone has been so helpful in this forum... thanks to all you developers!!!! )

One thing still puzzles me technically: How did you guy solve a challenge that Steinberg couldn't get right in WaveLab v5? I used to always have to double the speed of my podcasts in WaveLab before tranferring to my player. But certain ID3 tags t would crash it (especially if they had artwork jpg). So I had to remove each tag both ID3v1 & ID3v3 plus artwork.

I suspect that your algorithm is superior too since it retains consonants rather than dropping a few (like Steinberg do)... am not sure about this but so far sounds great.

As you can see, you have made my listening to podcasts much much much easier. Thanks ever so much for being the first to get this right. By the way, anyone else interested in podcasts can download &/or hear my specially selected (and often edited) alltime faves from my page: http://jo.koan.net/freespeech

When I press REC on my e280v1, the UP/DOWN change from PITCH to SEMITONE, however at no point does pressing the UP or DOWN button actually change anything... UP takes you back to the track info display, and DOWN does nothing... no matter if it says PITCH or SEMITONE.

As a DJ, I do think PAUSE and REW within the pitch interface(especially since I have unused buttons) and cue point, (hold to set, press to jump) would be useful. I'd also like to see the scroll wheel be switchable to nudge too.

regardless... I'd just like to say how pleased I am with this function! I was pretty sprung on Rockbox already for giving me access to my file structure, crossfading playback, SDHC access etc ... but I've been waiting for fine pitch control (nudge too) for years, ever since I discovered my old 512MB SanDisk player had a few 5% pitch adjustments. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

And thanks to sqgl for the link, looks like some good stuff in there! ;D

If the controls don't work correctly in an official build then it would be helpful if you could submit a bug report in Flyspray, so the devs can keep track of what's working and what's not.  Thanks!

yes?
Are you referring to something specific?

I figured it out too, with a visit to IRC and the helpful folks there.  And yeah, the manual is still a bit lacking on this subject.
or perhaps

Thanks so much for this feature.

I'm using a Sansa e200 and I think it would be nice to Label the Screen: TimeStretch

Remove Pitch altogether from this screen, remove the ^Pitch Up from the top of the screen (as tapping the top button actually returns to the WPS) and add an Info tag: Change mode with Rec button.

I don't use other player so I don't know how Player specific this might be.

Of course, I'd be happy with 10% increments.

Thanks!
So is it a bug or am I missing something here?

I just played around with the time stretching feature for the first time and felt COMPELLED to post a hearty THANK YOU to the devs.
It is amazing that I can be newly excited about Rockbox after using it regularly for years.
Good work!
