Remote Sound Quality
« on: December 19, 2005, 05:41:56 PM »
Hi,

I face quite a problem. When i am not using my remote the sound is great, even incredible. But when i use my remote(h1xx remote) i have a little noise behind when i change song, sometimes it stops quickly, sometimes not. Does someone already faced this problem? Is there a way to avoid it???

Have you tried enabling the ticking fix? it's in the remote LCD settings.

Is this option for hxxx only? I couldn't find it on X5. Thanks.

Yes, only on the H1/3xx as they have a hardware interference problem when the remote is plugged in which can cause an annoying ticking sound. There should be no need for a fix like this on other players (hopefully).

Ticking reduction can nearly fix this issue. Amiconn did a great job on it. From my experience most H100 units/remotes tick with various loudness.

H300 units can tick too but that is more rare than the H100.

I've been experiencing remote ticks with a X5 lately, mostly when listening to FM radio.

Has anyone else encountered similar effects?

OK, more info:

Ticks appear for me only when remote is connected and FM radio is playing.

Ticks are noticable without doing anything in FM screen.
Higher/lower volume affects ticks volume.

Ticks do not appear on preset-select menu, main menu or context menu, unless while pressing remote/main unit buttons.

scan/preset mode, force mono and specific frequency don't affect the ticking.
Forcing higher CPU freq speeds up the ticks by the appropriate factor.

This might be related to the new FM recording functionality, since FM mode originally was implemented without CPU interference (FM->audiomux->TLV320 bypass->headphone).

You wish!  :P Simple radio listening is still on bypass and is switched to I2S only for recording while on the recording screen. When you leave the screen, it's switched back to bypass.

Mike, are you sure about that? If it is on bypass if you don't record, why is the volume much lower, compared to the iriver firmware?

I compared the Iriver radio volume to the Rockbox radio volume and yes it's much louder. It's also much louder than the Iriver MP3 volume, while in Rockbox the MP3 and Radio volume are at similar levels for me. It's possible that they artificially amplify the radio volume?
