I/O Errror IPOD 4G Colour
« on: June 10, 2009, 01:31:29 PM »
Have just swapped to an Ipod 4G Colour.
Loaded Rockbox fine but I'm having problems copy/pasting my music files from C drive..

Every few minutes file tranfer stops & I get "I/O Error".

I'm too ignorant to know what this means.......

Do I need to reset something?

Can anyone help?

what version of Rockbox are you using?

You might want to try checking the filing system with something like chkdsk

Using 3.2 downloaded from the downloader today.

I should explain: if I click on - say - 5 albums, 2 or three will copy fine & message appears a few tracks into the next album (file).
In layman's terms, it seems to me that the file transfer is going too fast or filling up a buffer somewhere(?)

If you're using 3.2 that means that it's rebooting into Apple disk mode for transfers. You might want to try a different computer, or a different USB cable as it's most likely some sort of hardware issue.

Don't laugh -
Bearing in mind that I only got the machine yesterday, is it possible that it just needs a good battery charge?
With this in mind I've left it at home on charge while I go to work, will try it again tonight.

Secondary Ref Charging: when I plugged the charger in Rockbox loaded but the little battery icon was not animated (?).
Is it actually charging, or do I need to boot the original Apple software BEFORE charging?

I had similar problems with my Nano - when it was connected to the usb ports on the front of my case, it had a nasty habit of rebooting when trying to put more than ~200 megabytes of music on it. I solved this problem by connecting my player to the USB port on the back of the case (those are connected directly to mainboard).
Try charging your iPod complataly and using my suggestion.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Back to my secondary question - is the thing actually CHARGING in Rockbox? The battery icon does not move. Do I have to boot into Apple before charging?

I have a horrible feeling that I will get home toinght & find that the machine has not charged!
