Mr Green:
Hi,

I am trying to recover an old dead ipod, changed hard drive for cf adapter and cf 8gb card.

Having problems getting format of card right... wih to use rockbox maybe dual boot if possible

Was told on irc some cf cards are no good for this

Any advice on getting either restore or rockbox to work grateful

If you have access to a Windows computer, the easiest way is to let iTunes "restore" the device before attempting to install Rockbox.  This will also tell you quickly if your CF card is hardware compatible.

Mr Green:
Tried restore in itunes in windows and it does see ipod and tries to restore it, connected to wall hcager to complete restore but all I get is folder error... so I guess my card is no good

Thanks for your help

Hi,
I have and ipod mini 2nd gen with a CF. My advice is that at least here, not all CFs work. You need one with IDE support.
I'm using currently an A-DATA 32gb, and I've also used a RIDATA 8gb. I tried first with a Sandisk ultra II, but since it didn't have true ATA support, I was able to successfully restore using itunes, and also I saw the disk on windows, but the ipod was able to start booting, but it didn  allow me to access the contents ( don  remember, but I think I received a disk failure icon).
good luck!

Jose

Mr Green:
I have tried to get ipod to run with my card but without luck, under Ubuntu Linux its is mounted as an ipod I can transfer music to it but Ipod still shows folder error

Will check out ata cards see what I can find out

Thanks for your help
