h120 -> h132 CFMod success

I've just successfully completed a CF Mod on my iriver h120, giving birth to a new h132!  I also took the opportunity to install a high capacity battery (2200mAh CameronSino).  I used a Topram 32GB compact flash card that, oddly enough, registers in Vista as a Kingston Elite Pro card.  I transferred 19 gigs to it in under an hour (faster than I expected).  Anyway, I seem to have had success all around.

The only hiccup, actually, is that I haven't been able to update the Wiki with my results.  When I go to edit the page it just shows me a blank screen.  Well, perhaps I'll be able to take care of that later.

Next step: RTC mod.  I'm just waiting on a few parts to arrive in the mail, then I'm busting out the soldering iron

Nice one. Good to see that you decided to take the plunge. I replied to your original message and I too was successful (eventually) at modding my H140. It's so much nicer to not hear the drive making noise and it affecting the sound through the headphones.

Thanks for the reply to my other message.  It looks like you posted that just an hour or two before I started the process of performing my own mod

By the way, I thought I'd mention that in order to fill the extra space in the hard drive cavity I used a small piece of corrugated cardboard.  It seems like just the right thickness to keep the CF card from slipping out during the jostling of real-life use.  It seems a little chintzy to use cardboard in a fancy machine like this, but it was on-hand and it did the job.

I have done the CF-Mod successfully with a 32GB Kingston Elite Pro card. No issues so far, but to be sure: should I now change any rockbox settings regarding the disk to get better performance or maybe better compatibility?

I have never done this mod, but one thing I would investigate is whether directory cache is worthwhile.  It saves battery if you have an HD and browse the file system fairly frequently due to not having to spin the HD each time.  In this case there's no HD spinup cost.  You might be better off turning this off and saving the RAM for the audio buffer.  Similarly, with Load database to RAM.
