Gigabeat F40 3.2 build crashes occasionally
« on: May 29, 2009, 06:16:20 PM »
I have a Gigabeat F40 that has crashed twice. Once while navigating playlists and another time while navigating through different albums and playing songs from each . The screen would freeze up on whatever was showing on the screen and then would slowly fade to a white screen. The unit would then not respond until I turn the battery switch off and on, then reboot. My Gigabeat has version 3.2 stable build. Any ideas what that could be and what to do ? Thanks.

The first thing I would do is checking the filesystem

How would I go about that? Use Chkdsk on my computer to fix file  system errors on the Gigabeat ? Thanks

That is one way of doing it of course there are other ways to do it on other operating systems.

OK. I did XP's chkdsk for fixing errors on file system and recovering of bad sectors on the Gigabeat. Both said completed but no indication of any errors found. I did an analysis of the gigabeat hard drive and my program suggests defragging. Should I ? Still searching for the reason for the freeze ups though.. :-\
