Technical help: Trouble deleting certain files/directories in Rockbox on Ipod 5G
lasalsademuerte:
Hi, I'm not sure if this is the proper place for this question but, hopefully, someone can help me. I have recently inherited a 30gig Ipod Video and installed Rockbox on it however, I have one issue. Any of the audio files on it prior to installation cannot be deleted from the ipod, i.e. attempting to bring up the context menu to delete a file/directory will only give me the option of adding said file to the playlist. Anything that I have copied myself to the ipod since installation of Rockbox can, on the other hand, be deleted as normal via the context menu. I can also delete the prior installed files via iTunes when the ipod is connected to my macbook.
Does anyone know how I can go about fixing this? So I don't always have to use iTunes to delete old music I no longer want? I assume it's some kind of permissions related problem but I can't figure it out myself and it's getting rather frustrating, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to delete them from within the database, the file browser, the WPS screen, or what?
cool_walking_:
I don't think it would be permissions, because the closest thing FAT has to permissions is the "read-only" flag, which no-one takes seriously.
lasalsademuerte:
From the WPS screen if I use the context menu I do get the option to delete but trying to use to context menu by the selecting the album or song from the database, i.e. not whilst the song is playing, I don't get the option to delete the song/album. I was under the impression that I would be able to delete various things with the context menu without the song playing. Am I wrong about this? Only being able to delete things one at a time while playing seems a little odd. I dunno, maybe I'm just wrong and Rockbox is working fine. Let me know if you could.
Llorean:
You should trying deleting them from the files browser, not the database. The database shows various sorts of scanned files by way of tags and doesn't offer the same options as the file browser does.
