Strange DB issue - Sansa e270
« on: May 26, 2009, 10:28:34 PM »
I have removed SongA.mp3 from the player's hard drive and added SongB.mp3. This was done by inserting the card directly into a card reader on my PC and using Windows Explorer. I can see that this worked in Explorer. SongA is no longer there. However, when I put the card back in my sansa, I can see SongB has been added, but SongA still shows on the list. Here is the strange part - I can still PLAY SongA!

I have tried updating and initializing the database, restarting, and every combination thereof a couple dozen times. I'm not sure what else to try. Any suggestions?

Obviously it's not possible to play something that's not there, so you must have another copy of the song still on the player.  Play SongA and from the WPS, go to the context menu and look at "Show Track Info" to see the location of the file on the player.

I'm positive that it is not anywhere else on the player, given the source of the file (long story). Anyway- I'm playing the song, what/where is the "WPS"? In other words, from playing the song, how do I get to "Show Track Info"? Thanks.

The "WPS" is the "While Playing Screen." This term and others are described in the manual (which is something we have asked you to have read before asking questions here).

Try running the Disktidy plugin and then updating the database.

I tried disktidy, it sisn't seem to have any effect.

Also - I just reread my original post and realized it didnt quite make sense.

"I have removed SongA.mp3 from the player's hard drive and added SongB.mp3. This was done by inserting the card directly into a card reader on my PC and..."

The file is/was on the hard drive of the player, not the card. Forget I mentioned the memory card at all.  ;D

Regarding the post about the context menu on the WPS...
Looking at the manual, it says to hold down the menu button until the context menu appears. However, the options I see are nothing like what's described. I see only 3 things : "Shuffle" on the left, "Repeat" on the right and "Show Files" on the bottom. I can click left, right or down respectively to toggle these settings.

Can someone tell me step by step how to see the track location? Thanks.

Eric

The manual should say to hold down the select button, not the menu button.

I apologize, that did it.

It shows the path as /Recycled/Dg7.mp3. Just fyi - This is NOT the original file name of the MP3...

I went back to the disktidy app and went into "Files to Clean" and selected everything under Windows then reran it. Then I updated the database, restarted and *POOF*, SongA is gone.

Any idea why just this one file got orphaned? Maybe I didn't "safely" remove the sansa from my PC one time, and there was a delayed write hanging out there?

Thanks all for the help on this!

Windows created a recycle bin on your player and when you deleted the file it just moved it there.

Disktidy removed the recyle bin.
