i did not deny driver installation, i am asked everytime upon insertion. when i select automatic install, the system searches for a driver but is not able to find one.
i am using an official daily build, as i have said 2 times before.

Actually, you first said just a revision number. The second time you said you hadn't modified anything. Neither of those say you downloaded the build from our servers. If you give only a revision number, people are always going to ask at some point if it's been patched simply because you can have a revision number plus patches.

Knowing that you downloaded it from our servers, rather than compiling an unmodified one yourself, rules out quirks of compiler error since you're using the same one everyone else is. Either way, you haven't answered that exact question two times before, or at least you haven't given enough information that we could be 100% sure of the answer without making any assumptions. Also, are you using a daily build, or a current build?

You also haven't even attempted to answer my question about anything that may be unique or different about your setup.

OK, let me break this down:
my sansa e260 is connected to my Windows XP pc and there have been no major difficulties using the rockbox usb stack in the last 2 months or so. i downloaded r 21133 from the current build link provided under the downloads section.
i don't know if there is anything unique about my setup, as i have been successfully been able to access my device in the last few months. So i don't think there is.
regarding the behaviour of the sansa. i just read my previous posts and i must apologize to gavaerts, as i have stated i denied the installation before. the thing is, i can't install the drivers and am forced to abort the installation, because my system does not find the according drivers. i have written that i was able to get into the debug menu etc. with the current build r21065. i only got into the debug menu using the select connect method. controlling programs that way still functions with the new build. but when i connect the player without pressing any buttons, i get the usb detection sound from windows, the driver installation dialogue and the usb sign on the player. are there any questions, i haven't answered still?

Does USB mode work in the original firmware?

Could you try finding another PC and try there? The only drivers required are usb storage and HID, which should be there in any more or less recent OS. If it asks for drivers, there's something strange going on, especially if it accepts HID events sent from the debug menu

I tested it on another windows xp machine and it works there. but when i connect it while it's off, the rockbox bootloader loads the original fw somehow... when i plugin after rb has started, i can access the disk and control a media player.
the second pc is a netbook, which has media controls on the fn keys, i can even access these with my sansa now    :D
but the problem still remains on my main machine  :(

If you can find it in Device Manager (it will presumably have the yellow (!) next to it), try deleting that entry completely, then reboot XP, then plug in again.  It could be that the incorrectly setup entry in Device Manager is preventing it having an open mind about the device.

this is very strange. the system just won't install the drivers. i have looked at the system on which the driver works, and copied all files which were listed as drivers in the device manager. then i tried to manually copy them onto the machine where the drivers don't work, but i already have all these driver files in the correct places with identical file size. I'm puzzled, but it's not so bad because i can live with the usb functionality of the of, as long as i am still able to boot rockbox. i just thought that this was a bug, maybe it's just my computer.

Seeing as it works for everybody else and it worked on the other computer you tried, I'd say it was pretty clear that the issue is with your computer.

How new is your bootloader?  The bootloader (from prior to PP USB support) used to boot the OF when it detected a USB insertion at boot time.
