e200 Can't sync music with WM11
« on: May 25, 2009, 02:31:08 AM »
Hi there,

I'm having trouble using rockbox with my new sansa e250.

I successfully installed the latest release rockbox, and it works fine if I don't add any music to the hard drive.

I use windows media player to sync music to the e250.  With the e250 turned on and rockbox successfully loaded, when I plug in the e250 it restarts and turns back to original sansa firmware automatically.  I can then syncs successfully in MCP mode.  Before I disconnect the e250, I can browse through the music folder on the e250 and see all the music.

Once I disconnect the e250, the player restarts in rockbox, and I can see the music in the FILES menu.  When I used the database menu and finish indexing, I was asked to reboot, which I did, and then when the sansa restarted it said something about the database 1/9, and got to 3/9 before it stopped.  Then when I tried to go to database again, I was asked to index the database again, and asked to reboot again.  Basically the database function didn't work, and then I tried loading up the original sansa firmware.  Once I did that, suddenly I couldn't find any of the music files in the file menu in rockbox, or in windows explorer.

Any help is appreciated.

The e200 doesn't have a hard drive, it has internal flash memory.

There's is no MCP, only MTP and MSC.

Every time you boot the Original Firmare ("OF", in Rockbox parlance), it sets the "hidden" flag on the directory named "music".  You can set Rockbox to display hidden files and folders (the "Show Files" setting), use a different directory name to store your music (e.g. "audio" or "music2"), or if you are using a "current build" (which have Rockbox's own USB stack enabled), not use the OF.

It sounds like you are using the 3.2 release, but in future, please state exactly which build you are using (seen at the "Rockbox Info" screen), since people often say things like "the latest version/release" and mean different things.  Also, the "current build" version changes a few times every day.

I think Rockbox doesn't have full support for (what it considers "odd") tags, such as long tags, and tags with large embedded images.  To fix errors in building the database, people usually copy files off/on the device in groups (or strategically place "database.ignore" files), so as to narrow down which is/are the problem file/s.  If you catch any, you can post a bug report on the tracker and attach the file.
