You aren't likely to fix much of anything by randomly short circuiting things on your player's circuit board.  There are proper ways (such as JTAG) for writing to a corrupted flash ROM.  Unfortunately, these usually involve special equipment. 

Doing something like formatting your player's drive shouldn't cause any problems like this.  Are you sure someone didn't attempt an update/restore and disconnect at the wrong time?
