H320 error message on boot up: *panic* .....error (-4)

(1/1)

norma023:
well my Rockboxed CF Modded H320 had been working fine (1+ years) up until this morning. It turned on, I went into the files area to select some songs to play and after a while (never did play the music files) it eventually froze up and gave me an error message that said (going from memory):

*Panic* could not write sector 9066 (error -4)

Initial thoughts were the battery was low, so I put a different battery in it but got the same results.  It does boot up and goes into the iRiver firmware though, and from here it shows the battery is full, with my other battery it said that had about 1/3 of a charge.

I do have a hard drive that works in these, but it's from a laptop that (normally) boots up to WinXP. With this drive plugged into the H320 it starts to boot up but stops at during the boot loader part (stops right after the battery listing). So this in particular was inconclusive I guess.

A few searches here isn't finding much for the error (-4).

Anyone have any ideas?

was: H320
is: Rockboxed and CF Modded H320 (with a 16gig card)
build: doesn't boot up now but it was version 3 I believe from last Fall

bumping for new info on this:

it appears that my CF card has died on me. I've called and got a RMA for the card, so hopefully when the new card arrives I'll be back up and running

update:

replacement CF card arrived and I'm back up and running with my H320 (or rather a H316).

Never had a CF card die before, but apparantly they can and do

Yeah, i modded an H320 for a guy, and a week or two later he said he was just listening to music and it suddenly stopped.

The flash part of the CF just went away. Plugged into a pcmcia sleeve and into a laptop it showed up as an IDE interface w/ no drives attached. Plugged into a usb card reader it was just unreadable.

No part of what we're doing with these CF cards is in any way bizarre vs. the intentions of the CF spec, though, so i think if we get a few duds we've got every right to expect warranty replacement.
