USB 'charge only' mode missing? (Sansa e200v1)
« on: May 19, 2009, 02:25:05 AM »
This is one thing I noticed that went missing lately in some recent SVN build from sometime during the past month or two or three.

Used to be I could plug the player in via a usb port on my laptop and with the "usb connected" screen on the player I just hit the center select button and it would drop out of the storage device mode and just go to charging only so playback and other functions on the device could still take place.

This seems to no longer be possible. One tiny part of me is saying it is a setting I missed but I doubt it since I looked all over. I have a funny feeling it is partly related to Tomer's HID patches and some other related usb patches that went into SVN recently.

Anyone got any idea and maybe any advice? I'm at a loss. I, unfortunately, do not have any strict power only usb ports to work from here. :/

According to the svn logs, this feature was removed in r20911, because some operating systems didn't play nicely with this feature (mainly Windows I think). Evidently, this feature is still mentioned in the manual, but I think it should be removed, unless someone else knows a reason for it to stay or has any other comments on the subject.

USB charging can still be done, though, by holding the Select button while plugging in the usb cable to the computer.

The title says what I have actually.

But I didn't realize holding select while plugging it in would do it.

FWIW, I had no problems with switching it during the connection on XP, Vista, or Windows 7. But maybe it's a different issue altogether like different players? *shrug*

Thanks. :)

I tend to agree, but I can't do anything about it for a couple of weeks.  Maybe someone else will take care of it in the meantime.

there is a patch in the tracker which adds an option (and apparently brings back) this behaviour... FS#10198

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
