quick question, just out of interest, where is this recycle folder stored in rockbox
any other ways to clean this without using the DiskTidy plugin (or to be able to clean in the pc while connected)?

If you set "Show Files" to ALL then these hidden folders should be visible in the file browser.  Just to be clear, it's not Rockbox's recycle folder.  Your PC's OS creates and leaves behind these folders.
