pc keeps losing connection to ipod

I just bought a second hand 80gb ipod 5g and as you might have noticed by my previous threads I've been having a few problems with it. Now it keeps disconnecting while loading music on to it from pc and I get an error message saying usb device not recognized (or something similar). It seems to work for a while then the computer suddenly stops recognizing it and the ipod "g" drive vanished from "my computer".

What could be causing this and how can I sort it? I've tried two different usb cables aswell as different usb ports which seem to recognize other devices without any problems.

Maybe the iPod is just bad. Second hand electronics have a fair chance of being in less than prime condition.

yes. although files transfer alot faster. any idea what specific part of the hardware could be causing the problem?

Well, it would appear to be the USB interface, which is on the logic board. However the issue might be a power supply out of regulation causing malfunctions based on instantaneous loading. Either way (and given that the issue occurs under both Rockbox and the OF) it seems certain to be a hardware problem so you'll probably need to get a new logic board.

How do we know it isn't a problem with the PC, the USB port in question, or the USB cable?

It doesn't confirm that it's not a problem with the PC, but it at least suggests that the problem is likely to be on the device's side.

I appreciate the replies. I'll try it on another pc in a couple of days to see if it is a problem with my pc.

also try to use another dock cable, also i noticed connection loss because of oxidated doc connection on the ipod side, try to clean with contact cleaner.
