ipod photo not properly usb-connected

(1/1)

fewer:
when I installed the 3.2 release with automatic installer it worked fine: when I connected it with usb while running rockbox, ipod booted some other window in black and white, which was able of charging my player and copying files at normal speed, which was similar to original player's software.

Then I installed current build by simply copying contents of archive to ipod, overwriting existing files. Works OK, but now, when I connect my player to usb, rockbox behaves other way than it used to - a big usb plug appears on player's screen. Ipod still connects to computer and I'm able to view and modify files on disk, but ipod doesn't charge and the speed of copying files to or from it is much slower, like 3 megabytes/s, and it was 12-15 megs/s.

Ipod original software however still works fast and charging is fine.

So, what do I do to make rockbox work the right way when I connect it to usb? The reason I want current build installed is the possibility of showing album art in jpeg format.

Any comments appreciated. Thanks

Llorean:
That is how USB in Rockbox works right now. In 3.2, Rockbox didn't yet have USB and reset into the Apple firmware for USB, but in later builds our USB support is enabled.

I see, native support is great, but... is it how it works now or just my case? The speed is low and charging doesn't work?..

If so, is it going to be improved? how soon? I know, those questions may be quite nasty sometimes

Llorean:
You're using an open source project, you should expect things to fluctuate sometimes. The USB feature is new, and we're at the point where it works well enough for everyday use. Charging still needs significant improvement (your player is receiving power, but not enough to charge it while the disk spins) and transfer speeds still have room for improvement, though yours sounds even lower than expected. Have you run any specific tests, or are you just approximating from basic file transfers?

So yes, this is how it's known to be working now. Yes, it will be improve someday. No, I can't tell you when. I will never, ever, be able to realistically answer "when" to any such question because it's a volunteer project, and I am not capable of predicting the future and telling you when people will find improvements in their spare time.

OK. Thank you very much for your replies and for the great project you make!
