Physically, it is usable anywhere, as the ZIF disk plus adapter is the exact same size as the disks with the IDE socket. Electronically, I suppose it is like the two-platter 240GB version, and thus would require a special version of RockBox to handle the sector size (this has been done for the 240GB disk in an iriver player).

There are no reports of success with the MK1231GAL in anything but a 2nd gen zune or a 6th gen ipod classic.
And that includes no reports of success in netbooks, laptops, usb enclosures, etc.
Toshiba won't say why.
