So, like unsupported builds, the Lyre gets a single thread?

All I'm saying is that it should be treated no different than any other player manufactured by someone else. It's not special.

I still haven't seen anyone suggest a reason why it should get special treatment, despite the fact that, like every other MP3 player, it's hardware 100% outside of Rockbox's control.

It's not an issue of "distancing." It's an issue of not giving it special treatment. Over time open hardware may come and go, other people may create their own hardware variants. We have no obligation to support any of them, and I believe they should all be treated equally, as simply "we support the software" as we always have.

True. The difference with Lyre is that Rockbox came first, then the hardware. That doesn't make it deserve special treatment. But would it be fair to say that a single thread would be tolerated?

I think Jorge's intentions are good, and it would be nice to have a source of hardware which was fully open, enabling an optimal coupling of hardware / firmware.

Llorean:
If there's an unsupported build for it, of course a single thread for that build would be tolerated.

My point was entirely that they should not be offloading their entire hardware support process to our forum.

yapper:
I agree that is fair.

Yapper, thank you for your support :-) you are welcome to work with us for making this idea true.
Although it may looking that we are going away from Rockbox for creating our own web site, the true is that we always got a GREAT help from Rockbox developers and we want to continue like that.
After making a prototype based on a development board, looks to me that is very important to have an hardware available for selling so others developers can get it and hack it/on it. We have the luck of having another great hardware hacker that wants to design the board (already done), make the production, assembly and sell it -- he likes Free Software and Open hardware and he designed the board using Free Software KiCAD while everyone would no suggest it but instead use a commercial program. My task now is giving support for he can sell the hardware and have success, then we all also have success. So, we are now working on web site :-)

We do not want to have a fork!! we want our code on Rockbox SVN. Yes, that's why there is a patch there already.

The hardware will run Linux for example, but even that do not belong on Lyre project. We will not win any money from the selling, the seller (Matt from www.Opendous.org) will need to provide support for shipping problems for example, Linux, etc. (but we want to help community, ourselfs, independent of if someone earn money).

We at Lyre ( http://lyre.sourceforge.net/ ) will provide community support for the hardware which we will port Rockbox for. Later some other company can make his own version of hardware, and we will help also community for that hardware. I believe that our forums will need to grow and that's not fair put all it on already big forum of Rockbox.

But who knows if later, if project have good success, the things will change here on Rockbox forum? :-)

And I see the forum at Lyre site more "accessible", without the need to user register for post a message (put a message as anonymous), and users will login with OpenID.

Just 2 days ago a web-designer joined us (I asked for help on Rockbox mailing list and here on forum and we got an answer on mailing list), so, expect a better, more functional website on next weeks :-)
