Rockbox Development > Feature Ideas
deletion of voice clips.

Hi. I have looked around on the forums before posting, but I couldn't see any posts similar to this.
I had an idea for a new feature, I would like to know what people think about the following idea.
At the moment, so far as I can tell there is no easy way to delete voice clips once they are on your player that is quick.
You either have to delete them all manually from individual folders, delete a hole folder in one go if you want to be rid of voice clips quickly, or do it for individual files with rockbox.
So my idea is as follows, could an extra delete option be added into the context menu when you are highlighting a folder that will go through and delete talk clip files for an individual folder, or if the folder you are over has sub folders recursively for its sub folders as well.
I think this could be useful especially if your someone who stores files on your player other than music files, and it would mean you could save a lot of time if you want to get rid of talk clips and have accidentally generated them for files that don't need them.
Anyway, just wondering what do people think about this idea.

Why not just do something like this from a command prompt while the player is connected to the computer:
del /s x:*.talk
(where x: is the drive letter for your player)
This would delete all .talk files on the player and all subdirectories.
Alternately, you could run a search from windows for all files with a .talk extension, highlight the entire result set, and delete them.

My hole point is that at the moment there is no quick easy way to get rid of voice clips from within rockbox itself. Your methods both rely on having access to a PC. But what happens if your out and about and you suddenly decide you want to ditch all your clips for a given folder? besides both methods would take time especially searching the player. but if there was a simple delete talk clips option then it would be quite easy.
Febs:
Yes, my methods rely on having access to a PC, but doesn't the generation of voice clips in the first instance also rely on having access to a PC?
I don't use the voice feature very often, so I may be misunderstanding your request. Under what circumstances would it be necessary to do wholesale deletion of voice clips?

Especially why would you want to do it when you have no way to easily regenerate them (since you're asking to do this when you're nowhere near a PC) ?
