iriver H320 - slight rumbling HD-noise during recording
(1/1)
polluxx2006:
hi folks,
i dont know what happened... i opened my h320 twice:
first, i replaced the original, dead battery with a cameron sino
battery for iriver. so far so good... the battery works fine. a few weeks later
i replaced the "hold"-button wirh a new one because it was broken (NOT on the pcb, just the
knob).. and i guess it happened after that action: during recording (from linie in (mic) or radio) , whenever the hard disk is accessed,
the screen is slightly flickering (really hard to see but it is...) and you can hear
a low, rumbling noise from the hd... anyone got an idea..!?? its so strange... :(
thanks
plx

hmm, maybe it's time to do the CF Mod to your H320 ?
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/CFModGuide#Bootloader_procedure
That (I would think) should clear this up.
polluxx2006:
hi.... hm, guess what i already bought? - an adaptor from 1,8"pata to cf....
i know about the mod and iull do it sometime. but thats NOT a solution... its workaround.
i mean, if a part of my player's pcb is out of order id like to repair that first, before i switch to cf.
so i posted this thread.

yeah maybe, but if your HDD is dying, then the solution for that is to replace it.
Hard to say on your display blinking though......
Chronon:
Maybe something isn't getting contact to ground properly and you're getting a kind of ground loop somewhere. This can lead to strange floating voltages and might explain the noise you're experiencing (possibly also the screen flickering). Unfortunately, I don't have any specific advice other than to open it up and look for suspicious connections (corrosion on traces or contacts, etc.). I guess the chief suspect would be hard drive contacts. . . It's only a hunch but maybe it will lead somewhere.
