I didnt realise the albums that were playing after the itunes ones were actually single mp3s.

I trusted this...

Ah sorry - entirely missed that.

So the statement which I referred to is actually false ?

It seems so, at least. That's why I'd like actual filenames and such. From that, at least, we better know which questions to ask.

Hey gang. Sorry for late reply.

Heres the order it plays with full filenames...

H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\01-unkle-guns_blazing_(drums_of_death_part_1).mp3 - Click this with Select button to start playing
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\02-unkle-unkle_(main_title_theme).mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\03-unkle-bloodstain.mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\04-unkle-unreal.mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\05-unkle-lonely_soul.mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\06-unkle-getting_ahead_in_the_lucrative_field_of_artist_management.mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\07-unkle-nursery_rhyme,_breather.mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\08-unkle-celestial_annihilation.mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\09-unkle-the_knock_(drums_of_death_part_2).mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\10-unkle-chaos.mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\11-unkle-rabbit_in_your_headlights.mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\12-unkle-outro_(mandatory).mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\13-unkle-be_there_(bonus_track).mp3

Then it goes to...

H:\iPod_Control\Music\F00\01_O.mp3
H:\iPod_Control\Music\F01\02_O.mp3

Then...

H:\Music\kahvi264_lackluster-live_at_oblivion_helsinki_14-11-08.mp3
H:\Music\Kper_-_Wonk_Fonk.mp3

And heres a snapshot of the folder tree...

Hope that helps.

So it's playing in the expected order after all.

The order it plays in is:

H:\Music\*.mp3
H:\Music\UNKLE - Psyence Fiction\*.mp3
H:\iPod_Control\Music\F00\*.mp3

And goes in a circle. Since you started it in the second one down, it goes down from there, then finally around to the top. There is nothing strange going on here, then.

Oh ok.

I think when I view the file list on the ipod, it lists folders first then files, I assumed it would play in that order.

Anyway, thanks all. Apologies for wasting time.

I agree this is counter-intuitive behaviour. Most file browsers tend to show the subfolders first and then the files - I would expect Rockbox to play in that order too. I might take a gander at this and see if I can fix this behaviour.

Please don't. That's just broken...

If you're in \music playing \music\bob.mp3 and if finishes, wouldn't you then expect it to go "inward" to deeper subfolders?

This is pretty regular, recursively going through files goes through the files in the parent, then the first subfolder, then the first subfolder's first subfolder, etc.

Reversing that means playback would start at the very deepest subfolder and work its way out. To me it makes sense to work your way deeper, not start deepest and work your way shallower.

As I said on IRC to you - I don't think so no.

If I'm playing music from a bunch of subfolders :

/Music/Album1/*.mp3
/Music/Album2/*.mp3

Once it's finished all the subfolders I'd expect it to play :

/Music/*.mp3

But as we've already discussed this and you disagree I don't see any point going any further down this road.
